Sunnyvale HS STEM Students Kicked- Off 2015-2016...
On the first day of school Sunnyvale HS STEM students were asked to interpret the quote by Steve Jobs, "Stay hungry. Stay foolish." Most of them said "stay hungry" meant to keep growing in passion and love for learning. Without surprise, many students were reluctant to talk about, "stay foolish." The kids were a little perplexed, as to what the "right" answer would be to give me, as their new teacher. Only a few kids volunteered their thoughts. Ironically, the uneasy feeling students had, when talking to me for the first time, was exactly what Steve Jobs was probably talking about. The students quickly realized this class will not be just about learning science, technology, mathematics, and engineering concepts through applications, research, and discussions, but it will be just as much about their willingness to take risks, no matter how foolish: simple, complex, and crazy ideas will be welcomed. Many of the best scientific designs, ideas, and businesses failed before they ever succeeded. Through their failure, their will be growth and a deeper understanding. Through their understanding they will ignite their hunger to learn more and try again. Through their foolishness and their willingness to take a risk, they will find their brilliance.
